Ever stumble across an old post of yours, or a journal entry that reminds you of what you’ve gone through and how God brought you through?

This is me with the attached post. I was on a phone call to a friend recently and we got talking about different stories from the past 5 years. This led us to good old facebook. We were mostly laughing about how we used to talk and how facebook has changed since we joined in 2008/2009 (yes we are getting old eek), but this post struck me.

It’s easy to push to the back of your mind different experiences from the past, (good and bad) and the bible also encourages us to not dwell on the past. “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.” Isaiah 43:18 NIV

But what about when you lose hope for the present day or the coming future?

Sometimes God will stop us in our tracks when we least expect it and remind us of where He’s brought us from. It’s a reminder of His love and how He will never leave us or forsake us.

Going back to the FB post, I remember in my third year of uni, I was admitted to hospital for a week with severe tonsillitis and had a large lump in my neck that wouldn’t go down. Everyday the doctor would tell me I could probably go home the next day, but the next day came and it was the same story. They couldn’t actually figure out what the issue was and I was in so much pain, it felt like it was never ending! I was so upset, I just wanted to complete my coursework and couldn’t stop asking ‘why is this happening to me!? In my third year! Why me?’

But God came through.

They eventually found the cause of the problem (a post for another day lol) and I was able to complete my final year of university. When I saw this FB post and when I look back on this experience, I’m so grateful. God not only brought me through a tough season, but it is also is a reminder that If He did it before He will certainly do it again!

So if you’ve lost hope, why not look back on something God has brought you through before and use this as your confidence in what He will do for you in the future.

But if you’re stuck and still in doubt, here are some scriptures that you can lean on in hopeless times:

“Be still, and know that I am God; - Psalm 46:10

Take a moment to be still in the moment and remember God is always in control. He is bigger than any of your problems, fears and doubts.

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”- Isaiah 40:31

When we are weak, if we ask Him for help He will give us the strength to carry on and a confidence to face the trials in our way.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” - Proverbs 3:5-6

Put your trust solely in Him, and not how you see things. God knows the bigger picture, His thoughts are higher than our thoughts and his ways are higher than our ways. If you seek Him, He will show you what to do.

And finally always remember, God will never leave us nor forsake us.

If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there.” - Psalm 139:8

From the highest highs, to the lowest lows He will always be there, so put your trust in Him!
